The Utah Transit Authority (UTA) is committed to insuring equal access to all of its services, including electronic and information technologies. The rideUTA web site is designed to be accessible to those with disabilities.

From http://www.section508.gov/:

In 1998, Congress amended the Rehabilitation Act to require Federal agencies to make their electronic and information technology accessible to people with disabilities. Inaccessible technology interferes with an individual's ability to obtain and use information quickly and easily. Section 508 was enacted to eliminate barriers in information technology, to make available new opportunities for people with disabilities, and to encourage development of technologies that will help achieve these goals. The law applies to all Federal agencies when they develop, procure, maintain, or use electronic and information technology. Under Section 508 (29 U.S.C. ‘ 794d), agencies must give disabled employees and members of the public access to information that is comparable to the access available to others.

The rideUTA.com web site is designed to be in compliance with section 508 including, but limited to the following design standards:

  • A text equivalent for every non-text element shall be provided (e.g., via "alt", "longdesc", or in element content), except where it is used purely for decorative purposes and not necessary for navigation or use of the web site.
  • Web pages are designed so that all information conveyed with color is also available without color.
  • Documents are organized so they are readable without requiring an associated style sheet.
  • Redundant text links are provided wherever dynamic content may prove a barrier to the accessibility of information.
  • Row and column headers are identified for data tables.
  • No frames are used and tables are used only when necessary for the display of information and not as design elements.
  • Electronic forms are designed to allow people using assistive technology to access the information, field elements, and functionality required for completion and submission of the form.
  • Additionally all text is designed to be scalable, and the site is tested in multiple versions of the most common browsers including Internet Explorer, Firefox, and Safari.
