UTA’s Field Trip Program strives to provide the opportunity for educators to safely use the public transportation system and streamline the transit experience with a complimentary fare and training materials.

Field Trip Guidelines:

Fare: One (1) complimentary fare is allowed per class per school year, which will be one –round-trip pass on the UTA system for your group, which includes students, chaperones, and teachers.

If you are with Salt Lake City School District or another school with a transit pass agreement, please include this information in the School name and mailing address box in the form below. Schools and school districts with transit pass agreements for students are not limited to one trip per year.

Transit services: We cannot make route or schedule changes or provide additional vehicles (no special/chartered buses) for field trips. All groups will use regular transit services with other commuters. Buses and rail vehicles will not wait for group(s). Please ensure you and your group are on time for your trip by arriving early.

  • Regular scheduled buses can accommodate 25 riders.

Process:

  • Requests must be submitted two weeks in advance; if not, we will not consider your field trip request.
  • A UTA representative will contact the requester within 3 business days to confirm the scheduled field trip and provide instructions to access the field trip pass.
  • One (1) field trip group pass for your entire group will be sent to the requester via Transit app.

Chaperone-to-Student Ratio: We recommend 1 chaperone for every 10 students or youth in your group.

Training Materials: Please review the training materials prior to your field trip with your entire group. This is an essential step to success with riding UTA with your group.

Transit App: Transit app is used to issue fare through the requester’s Transit account. It helps riders access the UTA’s system with an easy-to-use app for trip planning, real-time vehicle tracking, and multimodal connections.
