Tap On. Tap Off.

To make your riding experience easier, UTA has an electronic fare card system. With your electronic fare card (Eco Pass, Ed Pass, or FAREPAY Card), you can easily pay your fare by tapping your card on an electronic card reader.

Why Tap?

Tapping your card when you board and exit is an important part of the transit pass agreement, whether that agreement is between you and UTA or between your university or employer and UTA.

These taps don’t keep track of who you are or where you go, but they do:

  • Show that valid fare has been paid for your transit trip
  • Tell UTA how many people are riding which routes
  • Gather ridership data so UTA can adjust service to better meet riders’ needs
  • Provide info about how many students or employees are using transit passes
  • Provides data to pass partners to show the benefits of the pass to students, staff, and employees

As the rider, you are responsible for tapping on and off when you board and exit. This is especially crucial on FrontRunner — if you don’t tap when you exit, you will be charged a full fare of up to $9.70. Please do your part to make sure the pass program works effectively.
