All current BYU students, faculty, staff, and their spouses and dependents can ride UTA buses, TRAX, FrontRunner, and UVX at no cost! The UTA transit pass is built directly into your BYU ID smartcard. New students can obtain their BYU ID at the BYU ID Center, located at 1057 WSC (Wilkinson Student Center).

The Utah Valley Express (UVX) bus rapid transit line (Route 830X) offers frequent connections all day and evening to destinations in both Provo and Orem, and its fare is covered by your BYU student ID.

How to Use Your Pass

When you board UVX, TRAX, or FrontRunner, tap your ID on the card reader on or near the platform. Tap again when you exit the platform at your destination.

When you board a UTA bus, tap your student ID on the electronic card reader near the door. Tap again when you exit.

Why Tap On and Off?

Tapping your card when you board and exit is an important part of the transit pass agreement between your university and UTA. These taps don’t keep track of who you are or where you go, but they do:

  • Show that valid fare has been paid for your transit trip
  • Tell UTA how many people are riding which routes
  • Gather ridership data so UTA can adjust service to better meet riders’ needs
  • Provide info about how many students and staff are using transit passes
  • Prove to your university that the transit pass is a helpful benefit for students and staff

As the rider, you are responsible for tapping on and off when you board and exit. Please do your part to make sure the pass program works effectively.
